MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons)

Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons) with Integrated Foundation Year

Mechanical engineers make things move. Mechanical engineers design and develop all machines with moving parts – anything from vehicles like satellites, cars, trains and aircraft; to plants for generating clean power; life-saving medical equipment like pacemakers, incubators and micro-scale pumps; and machines such as robots that make other products.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be considered by the University of Birmingham Dubai, you will need to meet our entry requirements as well as the specific entry requirements of your chosen programme.

Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons) – 3 years

What will you study?

Mechanical engineering is a professional discipline that is hugely important in day-to-day life, and supplies solutions to a vast range of sectors.

Our Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons) programme is designed to produce graduates with the required skills and knowledge to create products that can compete successfully in global markets, or to develop and implement new technologies.

In the first year of the programme, you will gain a thorough grounding in core engineering knowledge alongside a broad understanding of behaviour, policy, entrepreneurship and global perspectives.

In the second and third years, you will study a specialist programme in Mechanical Engineering, addressing key themes such as heat, power and fluid flows; vehicle engineering; control, manufacturing technology; and production management.

The final year of the programme has a problem-solving focus, and you will work on a major individual project linked to your chosen field of specialisation.

MEng Mechanical Engineering (Hons) - 4 Years

Students studying the BEng Mechanical Engineering have the opportunity to transfer to the UK MEng programme to complete their graduation, after completing the first two years of the BEng programme in Dubai. Our UK MEng programmes fully meet the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

You will start by enrolling on our BEng programme, and will be able to start applying for the MEng UK programme during your second BEng year. The first two years of our BEng and MEng programmes are identical. However, there are programme differences in year three and then the MEng has a fourth year. BEng students complete their main project in year three (final year); MEng students complete their main project in year four (final year).

The pathway is available to all Dubai Mechanical Engineering students, subject to achieving grades of 55% and above in the first two years.

Students who successfully complete their MEng graduation in the UK will be eligible to apply for the UK’s Graduate visa, allowing graduates to stay and work in the UK after graduation for up to two years. Our renowned Careers Network services support students to find placements and employment during, and after, graduation.

Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons) with Integrated Foundation Year – 4 years

What will you study?

Depending on your previous studies, you may need to take our four-year undergraduate programme, which includes an integrated entry year.

As part of your entry year, you will study Properties of Matter, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Mechanics and Waves, Mathematics, and Academic English and Study Skills. These modules have been designed to provide you with a solid foundation in relevant subjects whilst supporting your English language and study skills, preparing you to move on to the next stage of your chosen degree programme. We will ensure you are fully prepared for your undergraduate programme, immersing you in the University environment.
