What will you study?

Open the door to a world of career opportunities. This course will give you a strong knowledge of artificial intelligence and computer science, combined with real, practical experience.

Studying a variety of key modules, you’ll also complete a major project. These projects can range from developing an artificial intelligence system or software, to work that’s linked to our research groups. All involve the development of a large AI software system.

The modules you’ll study include Databases, Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Systems, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning AI Programming, plus current topics in AI and Machine Learning.

*You don’t need a computing degree to study this course.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning MSc* – 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time

What will you study?

Learn the key principles of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), then apply your specialist knowledge to real-world problems.

The past ten years have seen incredible advances in AI and ML, which are now transforming the way we interpret and use data. These advances are already finding their way into our daily lives, revolutionising everything from language translation, self-driving cars and face recognition, to recommender systems, healthcare and finance.

On this course, you’ll discover how machines perceive, explore and understand the world around us. You’ll then build on your knowledge, applying it to practical problems as part of a major individual project.

You’ll study a variety of taught modules, including Mathematical Foundations of AI and ML, Current Topics in AI and ML, Machine Learning, Neural Computation and Computer Vision, and Imaging plus Visualisation.

Computer Science MSc* – 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time

What will you study?

Learn the fundamentals of computer science and practical software development. The skills you gain will open the door to an exciting new career in computer science and information technology.

You’ll study a range of key modules and put your skills to work on a project. These projects range from applied software engineering to work linked to our research groups. Yet they all involve the development of a large software system.

Our modules include Databases, Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Systems, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Building Usable Software and Software Workshop.

*You don’t need a computing degree to study this course.

Cyber Security MSc – 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time

What will you study?

Set yourself apart with the skills you need to deal with current and future cyber security threats. The knowledge you gain will equip you to engage with complex, challenging problems and real-world issues.

This degree programme covers all the layers at which security must be considered, from low-level security attacks on software implementations, through more abstract design principles underlying secure systems, to strategies for management of processes and people. You will learn the theory and practice of designing and building secure systems that give you a firm grounding in cryptography, network security and secure programming, as well as modules in topics such as hardware and embedded system security, operating systems, incident management and forensics, ubiquitous computing and machine learning.

The programme also gives you practical experience with technologies and toolkits for building internet-based software. All students undertake a large, personally supervised project in the final months of the course.

Data Science MSc* – 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time

What will you study?

Discover an exciting new career in data science. Giving you a strong knowledge and practical experience in the field, the course is studied by graduates from a variety of academic backgrounds. Bringing you up to speed on the latest techniques, our MSc in Data Science will prepare you to tackle immediate, real-world problems in a dynamic, fast-moving industry.

The term ‘computing’ covers every kind of digital technology that creates, stores, communicates, exchanges and uses information. Being able to understand, manipulate and analyse large data sets will make you highly sought after by many different employers.

Building on your knowledge, you’ll then apply it to practical problems in a group project and through a large individual project.
