'I have been volunteering with the University of Birmingham Dubai since the exciting new campus opened. I have attended most of the open days, events and workshops, talking to new students to welcome them and offer my experience of studying with Birmingham. As a novelist with five published books, meeting new people from different walks of life is a reward that is not easily achieved. On the other hand, volunteering at the University keeps me in touch with the academic world, creating new opportunities for the future.'
